Gigamedia at the heart of the knowledge economy with the Waalse Krook in Ghent !

More than 150,000 metres of Gigamedia cable and vast numbers of the brand's products have been deployed in a vast multimedia complex within the young and dynamic city of Ghent in Belgium.

The Waalse Krook is an area of 13,714 m2 devoted to culture and information. A marvel of design and technology which houses a public library-media library, a media and information research centre for art and culture, as well as meeting places including a café, a restaurant, a park, a square, and so on. The centre, located next to the university in the south of the city, will open in March 2016.

The 150,000 metres of cable installed by a partner, specialised in laying structured cabling systems (www.ensolutions.be), are based on Gigamedia's CAT6A F/FTP Fire retardant technology.

This cable, composed of an overall foil and aluminium/polyester shielding on each  pair, enables excellent measurement and certification results (NEXT, ACR, ELFEXT, etc.) and an optimised signal-to-noise ratio, in order to guarantee a  10Gbits/s throughtput (10GBASE-T).

The outer LSFROH jacket provides an additional level of safety in buildings, when compared to standard LSZH cable, as it non-fire propagating (according to IEC 60332-3).

This cable is specially designed to meet standards IEC 60332-3, EN 50266 and NBN C30-004 F2 standards with a fireproof and halogen-free sheath, which does not give off/release toxic or corrosive fumes. Its electrical performance is also certified by an independent third-party body.
